Our Journey..
In 2014, we (the Schmid’s) decided to leave our home country and start a new life at the ‘cape of good hope. Europe had become too cramped, and too structured, with few opportunities and far too many regulations.
There was no room for free-thinkers, no room to live up to your potential.
We arrived here with an Austrian Stone Mill, a pasta machine, and a vision: to practice the skill of grain milling and pasta making and to raise awareness about wholesome food and organic, small-scale farming. It has been a journey with many ups and downs, we were often at a point where we asked ourselves: Will we get through this? And we always got through it,
with little money and much faith.
From the beginning, we were staying on a smallholding in Rheenendal. It was always our dream to start a large veggie garden and keep some animals. We started off with a little veggie patch and a handful of chickens. By now, our organic veggie garden covers over 300m2, and 4 milk goats + a donkey have joined our farm family. We wouldn't call ourselves farmers, but we have become homesteaders :). Our pasta and flour factory is small but powerful. Over the years we have learned that you can do a lot in a relatively small space with no more than 3 people. Every packet of pasta leaving our farm has been packed by hand with great care and lots of love. This makes our products unique and truly artisan.
