How quickly time has passed by, sometimes it overtakes you before you can even notice. So much has happened at the Grain Mill!
About 3 years ago we did the Big Move. We had to move out of our old Premises, which we were renting from Metelerkamps, as soon as possible. We knew we could only close for a maximum of 5 days, by then everything needed to be up and running again, the Restaurant, the shop, and the mill at the farm. The Big Move was only possible, with all the people who offered their help and support. Good Friends who have always helped us, out of the most difficult situations.
We knew we had to move in 5 days, we didnt have transport, we knew we needed a big truck to get the Mill to the Farm. In town, the entire new shop needed to be set up at the Tin House. Felix had already done all the renovation work and now it was our turn, to give the Tin House the Grain Mill vibe and make it cosy and welcoming.
Ashley and I painted the whole place, 2 days in a row, while Angelo and my brother David were building, wiring and painting, without rest. Angelo and David are real miracle workers, as they do everything we can´t do. Usually they are responsable for the pasta and flour production, but they also do all the carpentry work and they can fix pretty much anything.
Greg from 40° (the hot builders) was so kind to send us help to move the kitchen and the shop furniture into the Tin House.
After 2 days of painting, Ashley said to me, that she doesnt want to do any more painting work, for the next 2 years, and I felt the same. We did however get through it, and it was definitely a teambonding task.
Next in line was the transport of the mill, and all that comes with it, to the farm.
Luckily we once again got help, when we really needed it. Our Friend JP offered his help. He arranged a truck with a crane to load the mill and most of the heavy Machinery. He even loaded some of the things on his bakkie.
JP has helped us so much over the years, and he has always made things possible which seemed impossible, Thank you JP!
Of course Felix and Molly (our dogs) always need to be supervising the events :)
After the Mill was brought into the workshop without any problems and all was setup, David and Angelo were very exited about their new workspace.
Those 5 days were though 5 days, but we had a lot of fun and have made lots of memories worth remembring, together with all the people who made it possible.
